Big Red boys, girls repeat as Early Bird champs
STEUBENVILLE — For a second-straight year, the Big Red boys and girls track teams topped their season kick off meet, the 41st annual Early Bird Invitational at the Harding Stadium Complex on Saturday.
The girls racked up 125 team points to top the field, led by seven individual event winners and 14 runners/relay units finishing on the podium.
Winning events were Kaycee King (100 dash and 200 dash), Nina Jesse (400 dash), Adrianna Crabtree (300 hurdles), Phynyx Fleming (shot put), Bri Hudson (discus) and the 4×100 relay team of A’kiya Jackson, Nylah McShan, Addison Snyder and Sydney Reed.
Also reaching the podium were Laila Reed (second in the 100), Terrionah Thompson (second in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles), Jackson (third in the high jump), Joshlyn Starr (second in the shot put) and Fleming (second in the discus).
On the boys side of things, Big Red racked up 98 points to top the team scoring led by five event winners and nine podium placers.
Winning events were Colton Henderson (100 dash), Ziare Scurry (200 dash), Lawrence Luke (high jump), the 4×200 relay team of Landon Crosier, Terahji Thompson, Stephen McShan and Josiah Rea and the 4×100 team of Crosier, Henderson, McShan and Scurry.
Also reaching the podium were Scurry (second in the 100), Henderson (second in the 200) and Rea (second in the high jump).
