OHSAA girls tournament pairings set
The OHSAA girls basketball MaxPreps RPI standings have been finalized, the seeds have been determined and the pairings are set for the upcoming district tournaments.
Steubenville Big Red earned the top seed in its division, while four other local teams — Indian Creek, Edison, Catholic Central, and Harrison — finished in a high enough seed to host their tournament openers.
DIVISION III
Big Red, which sits at 20-1 and won the OVAC Class 5A championship, earned the top seed in the East District and will open its tournament run at home at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21, hosting No. 5 seed Dover. Big Red owns a win over the Tornadoes earlier this season.
The winner of that game will advance to face the winner of No. 2 seed Zanesville and No. 3 Tri-Valley/No. 4 New Philadelphia. Tri-Valley and Dover meet on Feb. 18.
The East final will be on Feb. 25 at a site TBD. The winner advances to meet the Southeast District winner Feb. 28 for a trip to the regional tournament.
DIVISION IV
Indian Creek (17-4) earned the No. 2 seed in the East District and will compete in the East 1 bracket. The Redskins open their tournament run on Feb. 19 hosting Meadowbrook, the No. 15 seed, at home on Coach D Court with a 7 p.m. tip.
The winner of that game advances to meet the winner of No. 12 Minerva and No. 7 Maysville in the district semis on Feb. 25.
Also in the East 1 bracket is Harrison Central (9-12), who is the No. 6 seed and will open up against No. 10 Indian Valley in Cadiz at 7 p.m. on Feb. 19.
The district championship game will be held at site TBD at 1 p.m. on Feb. 28.
DIVISION V
Edison’s historic 19-2 regular season earned it the No. 2 seed in the East District and the Wildcats will compete in the East 1 bracket.
Edison will open its tournament run at home at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 hosting the winner of No. 6 Sandy Valley and No. 7 Barnesville, who play on Feb. 19.
The winner advances to the district final at 1 p.m. on Feb 28 at a site TBD.
Also in the East 1 bracket is Buckeye Local (3-18), which is the No. 11 seed. The Panthers travel to the winner of No. 3 Tusky Valley and No. 10 Ridgewood on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
DIVISION VII
Catholic Central (11-10) earned the No. 5 seed in the district and will open its tournament run at home, hosting No. 6 Malvern at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21.
The winner of that game advances to face the winner of No. 8 Bishop Rosecrans and No. 1 Strasburg/No. 11 Bridgeport on Feb. 25. The Tigers and Bulldogs play on Feb. 18.
Also in Division VII, Toronto is the No. 7 seed and will open the tournament at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21 against the winner of the Feb. 18 match up between No. 2 Caldwell and No. 12 Conotton Valley.
The district championship is set for 1 p.m. on Feb. 28 at a site TBD.
