MOUNDSVILLE — The John Marshall Monarchs sent their five seniors off in style Monday during their Senior Night outing against the visiting Weir Red Riders.

After a slow start, the Monarchs started picking up speed in the second quarter and sprinted to a 66-19 victory in their penultimate regular season game.

Monday was a celebration of John Marshall’s five seniors– Kaylee White, Rilee Storm, Masyn Inclan, Nia Miller and Lainee Farmer. All five scored throughout Monday’s game.

“You think back to when they were freshmen, where we were and where we are now, it was a lot of hard work from that group,” John Marshall head coach Brock Melko said. “I mean, they worked in the offseason. They did absolutely everything and they set the tone. They didn’t up and win everything right away. They had to take some beatings and learn how to win. And they’ve elevated us from four, three years ago to here, they’re in a pretty good place.”

John Marshall led 11-6 after the first quarter, but began to pull away in the second quarter, scoring 11 points in the final 90 seconds before halftime, including two steals-and-scores from Kalyn Reese and a buzzer-beating layup by Kaylee White which sent the Monarchs into the locker room ahead 28-10.

It was an extra special night for White, who made her 100th career 3-pointer from the wing with just over a minute to go in the third quarter, a shot that put John Marshall ahead 40-13.

White finished with 11 points on Monday, as did Reese. Rilee Storm led all scorers with 24. White hit three 3-pointers Monday while Storm made two, also going 10-10 at the foul line.

Ryann Jeter scored 17 points for Weir, accounting for all of the Red Riders’ scoring until the fourth quarter.

John Marshall plays their final regular season game of the year on the road Thursday against Fairmont Senior. Weir plays their final regular season game at home against Brooke on that same day.
