Big Red boys improve to 7-1 with big win at Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE — In a battle of teams with just one loss, Big Red went to Cambridge and earned an impressive victory over the Bobcats Saturday, 73-57.

The game was tied 15-15 after one but Steubenville, now 7-1, out-scored the Bobcats (9-2) 22-10 in the second quarter and stayed in front from there.

Santino Haney led Big Red with 23 points, while Tre Wiggins netted 15 and Landon Bowers 12 and Cole Bowers nine.

Big Red is at home on Tuesday.

Defense leads Red Riders

BURGETTSTOWN — The Weir High boys basketball team used a strong defensive effort to top McGuffy High at the annual Chuck Mahoney Classic Saturday at Burgettstown, 45-28.

The Red Riders, now 3-4, held McGuffey to just one point in the fourth quarter and in single digits in three of four.

Offensively, Justin Kaczmarek netted a game-high 21 points, while Ryant Lyons tallied 13.

The Red Riders play Linsly at home on Tuesday.

Bruins top Huskies

CADIZ — The Brooke boys basketball team went on the road to Harrison Central on Saturday and won its third-straight game, 69-56 over the Huskies.

The Bruins, now 4-2, were led by 27 points and four assists from Andrew Murdock, while Crosby Morris netted 17 points and three rebounds, Grant Yost tallied 10 points and 15 rebounds for a double-double, Pete Fodor tallied eight points and four assists and Ty Sperringer recorded five points, eight rebounds and six assists.

The Huskies got 13 from Bryson Kamarec and 12 from Brady Hyre.

The Bruins host Buckeye Local on Tuesday.

Oak Glen tops Tigers

WELLSVILLE — The Oak Glen boys basketball team made it wins in back to back outings on Saturday with a 56-49 win over Wellsville on the road.

The Golden Bears, now 4-2, were led by Gavin Geisse with 16 points, Will Weekley with 12 and Chase Hartung with 10.

Crusaders win close game

ZANESVILLE — Rahim Mitchell netted 32 points to lead Catholic Central to a big road win at Tusky Central on Saturday, 53-49.

The Crusaders, now 5-4, are at Big Red on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Madonna falls to Heartland

COLUMBIANA — The Madonna girls basketball team dropped a 48-31 decision on the road at Heartland Christian on Saturday.

Geena Birkhimer tallied 10 points to lead the Dons.
