Crusaders boys top Wellsville 49-30 to improve to 2-1
STEUBENVILLE — Rahim Mitchell tallied a game-high 25 points leading the Catholic Central boys basketball team to a 49-30 victory against Wellsville Saturday night inside the Mickey Barber Gymnasium.
Michael Fabbro finished with 12 points for the Crusaders (2-1).
Austin Adkins delivered 22 points to lead the way for the Tigers (0-3).
Catholic Central led Wellsville, 25-22, at halftime before the Crusaders shut out the Tigers in the third as the Blue-and-Gold collected 12 points in the quarter to build a 37-22 lead entering the fourth.
Catholic Central is scheduled to play Bridgeport Tuesday night on the road.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Weir gets big win
FARMINGTON — The Weir High girls basketball got a big early season win on Saturday on the road, topping regional opponent North Marion 61-59.
The Red Riders (1-1) used a 23-point fourth quarter to surge ahead to the win.
Ryann Jeter led the way with 32 points, while Gianna Siegal netted 11 points.
Weir is at East Fairmont on Tuesday.
Dons top Notre Dame
WEIRTON — The Madonna girls basketball team fended off Clarksburg Notre Dame on Saturday for a 39-35 victory, improving to 2-0.
Geena Birkhimer led the Dons with 14 points, while Rosa Cody netted 10.
Madonna is at Toronto tonight.
