TORONTO — Toronto’s offense exploded in the second quarter and the Red Knights did not look back, rolling to a 41-0 victory over Columbus Grandview Heights in the opening round of the playoffs on Friday night at home.
Toronto, now 10-1 and the No. 6 seed in the Division VI, Region 23 bracket, advances to visit No. 3 West Jefferson (9-1) next Friday in the second round. Grandview Heights closes out at 7-4.
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Red Knights scored 28 in the second quarter to take a big lead into the locker room, pulling away further in the second half to enact the running clock.
Senior QB Michael Henry had a big night in his last game at Clarke Hinkle Stadium, completing 20 of 24 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran nine times for 36 more yards.
His top target was fellow senior Brady Fair, who hauled in 11 passes for 109 yards and all three of the TDs. Colt Joynson (81 yards) and Max Rebich (42 yards) each hauled in four passes.
In the ground game, Drake Bouscher led the way with 97 yards on 15 carries, while Caden McGrath scored on two of his seven carries for 40 yards.
On defense, McGrath had six tackles, two pass break ups and a TFL, Bouscher had five tackles, a sack and a TFL, Landon Jaworski had a sack, Rebich intercepted two passes and broke up another, Mason Clark had an interception, forced a fumble and broke up three passes, Joynson broke up four passes and Jackson Gibson recovered a fumble and had a team-high eight tackles.
Edison falls at Manchester
AKRON — The Edison football team’s successful first season under Anthony Pierro come to an end Friday night with a 45-14 loss at Akron Manchester in the opening round of the Division V, Region 17 playoffs.
The Wildcats, who were the No. 10 seed, close their season with a record of 6-5.
Manchester, the No. 7 seed, improved to 8-3 and advances to travel to No. 2 seed undefeated Girard next Friday.
For the Wildcats, Nolan Haught had an interception return for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Skyler Willoughby.

Brooke finishes strong
WEIRTON — Frank Sisinni’s return to Jimmy Carey Stadium was a winning one.
Sisinni’s Brooke Bruins invaded his old stomping grounds Friday night and left with a convincing 46-10 win over their rival Red Riders.
The win gives Brooke two in a row in the rivalry series and Sisinni his first as the coach at his alma mater.
The Bruins opened a 12-0 lead after one quarter and led 28-8 at halftime, pulling away further in the second half.
Brooke closes its season with a record of 4-6 with its idle week set for next week.
Weir High drops to 0-9 and has a trip to Herbert Hoover next Friday looking to get coach Quincy Wilson his first victory.
Oak Glen falls at Clay-Battelle
BLACKSVILLE — Oak Glen battled hard against a very good Clay-Battelle team on the road Friday night, but came up short, 16-8.
The Golden Bears were playing in their final regular season game drop to 7-3 on the season.
They will have to wait and see if they make the playoffs as games play out next week as they sit idle. They entered the week No. 13 in Class AA, the top 16 making the playoff field.
After trailing 8-0 at halftime, Logan Murray scored on a 20-yard run in the third quarter and Maddox Bowen ran for two to knot the score.
The Cee-Bees (8-1, No. 3 in Class A), though, scored the only points in the fourth quarter to take the victory.
Murray led the Golden Bears, who out-gained the Cee-Bees in the loss, with 196 yards on 22 carries after missing last week’s game. Jacob Everett racked up 65 yards on 13 totes and Cam Carter 37 on four carries.
Bowen completed 5 of 12 passes for 56 yards, Carter catching three for 39 yards.
