Brooke edges Weir, Oak Glen in Top of WV Golf League tourney

WELLSBURG — The Brooke golf team narrowly out-paced Weir High and Oak Glen on Tuesday to win the Top of WV Golf League tournament at Highland Springs.

The Bruins shot a score of 173, two strokes better than the Red Riders’ 175 and 10 better than the Golden Bears’ 183.

Parker McMahon was the medalist of the event with a low score of 36.

Also for the Bruins, Zac O’Mery fired a 43, Colton Yensen a 46, and Elliot McDonald turned in a 48.

For the Red Riders, Guy Meneely shot a 42, Evan Kaczmarek turned in a 43, Justin Kaczmarek a 44 and Isaiah Smith and Landon Donaldson each carded a 46.

For Oak Glen, Zach Jenkins fired a 44, while Marleah Lough and Maddox Chaffin shot a 46 each.

Oak Glen tops Linsly

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Oak Glen volleyball team topped Linsly in four sets on Tuesday evening, 25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-17.

Averi Martin tallied 21 kills in the match, making it a milestone night as she topped the 1,000 mark for her career.

Brooklyn Six and Brayley Lash each had 13 kills, while Kendall Six registered six kills, Mikalyn Balch tallied 47 assists and 15 digs and Kiera Vick finished with 11 digs.

Oak Glen, which improved to 18-7-3, is back in action tonight on the road at East Liverpool in the battle of the bridge.
