Crusaders topple top seed to reach district final

ZANESVILLE — The Catholic Central girls soccer team is headed to the district championship game.

The Crusaders went on the road and pulled an upset of top seed Zanesville Bishop Rosecrans on Monday evening with a 2-1 victory in the Division V, East District semifinals.

The Crusaders, the No. 3 seed, advance to the district title game on Wednesday. They will battle No. 2 seed Berlin Hiland at Sandy Valley High School in Magnolia for the district title and a trip to regionals.

Hiland beat No. 4 seed Navarre Fairless 5-0 in the other semifinal on Monday evening.

The district final is set to start at 6:30 p.m.

In Monday’s win, the Crusaders got goals from Zelie Baillargeon and Lily Krivoniak. Aurelia Hoover had an assist in the victory.

Addie Long stopped nine of ten shots faced in goal to help secure the victory.

Central improved to 10-6-3 with the win, hitting double digits in the win column for a third straight year.
