WVU star RB Jahiem White reportedly done for the rest of season
West Virginia running back Jahiem White will reportedly miss the remainder of the season, per CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz. White went down in the second quarter in the loss to Ohio after he was tackled by a horse collar and a facemask. White proceeded to be carried off the field, spent significant time in the medical tent, then play was stopped, for him to be carted off the field.
WVU had no official word on the reports.
After the game, Rich Rodriguez said it looked bad from the sideline, but didn’t know the extent of the injury.
White rushed 18 times for 93 yards and two scores in the season opener against Robert Morris. Then, six times for 60 yards and WVU’s lone score against Ohio before the injury.
White was looking to have another big year after leading the Mountaineers in rushing in 2024. Rodriguez has a run-heavy offense, so White was poised for another strong performance. He also received preseason All-Big 12 honors. He stayed after Rodriguez was hired because he saw how much he used running backs. White also bulked up to handle the extra workload.
After White went down, WVU’s offense couldn’t get anything going against Ohio. Rodriguez turned to Clay Ash to carry the workload, but only rushed four times for two yards. Third string running back Cyncir Bowers will now have a bigger role. There was some excitement surrounding him after he rushed for a long touchdown against Robert Morris. Bowers didn’t get anything in his lone carry against Ohio.
White’s not the only Mountaineer that went down against Ohio.
Wide receiver Jaden Bray was also carted off and linebacker Reid Carrico left early in the game, and didn’t return.
Rodriguez will address the media today for his weekly press conference. WVU will have a lot of holes to fill when it takes on Pitt in the Backyard Brawl Saturday.
