Big Red boys soccer drops close match at Beaver Local
CALCUTTA — Two teams at or close to the top of their divisions in the OVAC standings met on the soccer pitch Thursday evening when Big Red traveled to Beaver Local.
The match was as close as one could imagine between the Class 5A leader and Class 4A second place team, with the host Beavers edging out a 3-2 victory over Big Red.
Cole and Landon Bowers had the goals for Steubenville, which is now 4-2-1 on the season.
Gabe Martin and Drew Stimpert had an assist each, while JJ Lamantia had five saves in net.
Big Red out-shot Beaver Local 11-8 in the match.
Steubenville hosts John Marshall on Saturday.

Oak Glen sweeps Boardman
BOARDMAN — The Oak Glen volleyball team went on the road and picked up a big sweep at Boardman on Thursday, 25-17, 26-24, 25-17.
Brayley Lash had 13 kills and five blocks, Brooklyn Six tallied 12 kills and nine digs, Averi Martin had 10 kills and four aces and Mikalyn Balch registered 44 assists.

Weir wins quad match
NEW CUMBERLAND — The Weir High golf team topped local foes Steubenville, Brooke and Oak Glen Thursday at Woodview.
The win improved the Red Riders’ record to 17-5 on the season.
Weir’s Guy Meneely and Evan Kaczmarek tied Big Red’s Christopher Elliott for co-medalist honors, each finishing with a 33 on the day.
Weir had team score of 144, while Brooke, led by Parker McMahon’s 37, shot 164, Big Red shot 166 and Oak Glen, led by a 37 from Zach Jenkins, fired a team score of 174.
