Edison scores early, gets a win over visiting Big Red

RICHMOND — The Edison baseball team jumped ahead in the first inning and did not look back on the way to a 6-2 victory over visiting Big Red on Wednesday at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.

The Wildcats (16-8) plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning and it proved to be more than enough.

Big Red (10-13) plated a pair of runs in the third inning to cut the lead in half, but Edison tacked on two more in the sixth and held Big Red at bay.

Bryce Rogers fired five innings on the mound, striking out two and walking five before Kyle Long came on and fired a scoreless final two innings with one punchout and no walks.

At the plate, JD Henderson had a triple, two singles and an RBI, while Cole Pittman had two hits and an RBI and Kaiden Russell had a double, single and an RBI.

For Big Red, Maddox Gulan had a double, single and two RBIs and Kail Simmons also had two hits.

Nolan Blackburn took the loss, striking out one and not issuing a walk. All six runs against were unearned.

Edison is at Heartland Christian today, while Big Red returns to the Crimson Complex today to host Catholic Central on senior night.

Creek falls in close ranked-battle

CARROLLTON — The Indian Creek baseball team dropped a close, 3-1 decision on the road at Carrollton in a battle of teams ranked in the top-five in Ohio Division IV.

The Redskins, now 18-4, tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but gave up a pair of runs in the bottom half.

Ty Householder and Sal Barcalow each had two hits for Creek, Barcalow driving in Creek’s lone run.

Gavin Pownall went the first four innings, while James Brothers took the loss in relief.

Creek has a rematch with the Warriors on Friday evening at home.

Toronto tops Monroe

TORONTO — The Toronto baseball team topped visiting Monroe Central on Wednesday evening at home, 9-2.

Cole Barcus had two hits and drove in four runs for the Red Knights (21-4), while Drake Bouscher tallied a double and a single.

On the mound, Michael Henry fired the first four innings, striking out two and walking one, then Barcus (two innings) and Lucas Wiseman (one inning) combined for three scoreless frames to finish things out.

The Knights go to Harrison Central on Friday.

Oak Glen bows out

SISTERSVILLE — The Oak Glen baseball team dropped a 8-1 decision to Tyler Consolidated on the road in an elimnation game in the Region 1 tournament on Wednesday.

Maddox McKay had a pair of hits for the Bears, who close the season 12-18.
