Big Red pulls away from Edison
STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red softball team got some big hits against visiting Edison on Wednesday evening.
Sena Smith hit a home run, had two hits and drove in two runs, while Paige Matteson had two doubles, single and drove in two runs and Gina Smith also drove in two runs as Steubenville pulled away from the Wildcats for a 14-4 victory at the Crimson Complex.
Big Red (18-5) got six strikeouts and two walks in the circle in a six-inning complete game from Isabella Cadille.
Edison (9-11) got a homer, a double and four RBIs from Alli Shrieve in the loss. Sophia Henderson doubled and Abby Boka had a pair of hits.
Big Red finishes the regular season with a home game against River View on Friday, while Edison travels to Cambridge today.
BASEBALL
Creek blanks Ferry
MINGO JUNCTION — The Indian Creek baseball team made it back-to-back wins over Martins Ferry with a 4-0 victory at Muth Field Wednesday to sweep a home-and-home.
The Redskins (15-3), the No. 2 ranked team in Division IV by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association, got a complete game shutout from Sal Barcalow, who fired six strikeouts.
Hunter Rusnak had a double and two RBIs, while Ian Starkey doubled and Barcalow and Stan Amis each had an RBI.
Creek is at Big Red today.
JM tops Big Red
STEUBEBVILLE — The Big Red baseball dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting John Marshall on Wednesday in a game that was moved to Steubenville from JM following Tuesday’s rain.
Maddox Gulan had a big day in the loss, hitting three singles and driving in a run for Big Red (8-11). Owen Griener struck out four and walked four in a complete game effort.
Big Red is back at home today to host Indian Creek.
Oak Glen tops EL
EAST LIVERPOOL — The Oak Glen baseball team made it a season sweep of the battle of the bridge series with a 10-6 win at East Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Golden Bears (11-16) got three hits and three RBIs from Josh Maher, while Gannon Cline and Christian Chappell each had two hits.
Noah Willey (four strikeouts in four innings), Bryce Cooper (three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings) and Colt Hissam (two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings) combined to fan 10 batters.
Oak Glen is at Catholic Central on Friday.
Dons blank Wellsville
WEIRTON — The Madonna baseball team rolled to a 19-0 win over visiting Wellsville on Wednesday.
The Blue Dons (19-4) got a double, single and two RBIs from Maddox Bowen, three hits and two RBIs from Reno Fuscardo and four RBIs from Luke Wingett.
Fuscardo struck out four in the first three innings for the win on the mound.
The Dons host Monroe Central today.
JCC beats Central
STEUBENVILLE — The Jefferson County Christian School baseball team defeated Catholic Central 7- 3 on Wednesday.
EJ Keener struck out 14 batters, Wyatt Hervey was 4 for 4 at the plate EJ Keener tripled, Carl Bonecutter was on baseball four times with 2 hits, Lee Gump had two hits and Carson Duvall drove in two runs in the Royals 13th win of the season.
