Indian Creek sweeps home-and-home with Beavers

MINGO JUNCTION — Two games against Beaver Local this week, two victories for the Indian Creek baseball team.

After winning 13-1 on the road at Beaver Local on Monday, the Redskins again scored 13, this time knocking off the Beavers 13-3 on their home diamond at Muth Field on Wednesday for the sweep of the season series.

The victory improves Creek to 6-1 on the season ahead of another home-and-home set with Harrison Central today and Friday.

After the Beavers struck first with a run in the top of the first, Creek plated three in the bottom half, then a seven-run third inning broke things open.

Caleb Bodo had a double, single and four RBIs to lead the way at the plate, while Sal Barcalow had a double, single and drove in two runs.

Ty Householder also doubled and singled and drove in a run, while Hunter Rusnak doubled and Sylus Hyde, Gavin Pownall and Ian Starkey each drove in a run.

Hyde, who homered against the Beavers on Monday, made his biggest impact on the mound Wednesday with a nine-strikeout complete game effort.

Creek opens their set with Harrison Central today in Cadiz before hosting the Huskies at noon on Friday.

Madonna blanks the Bears

NEW MANCHESTER — In a rematch of an opening day meeting, the Madonna baseball team went to Oak Glen and picked up a 10-0 victory in five innings on Wednesday.

The Blue Dons, who are state ranked and leading the OVAC Class A standings, improved to 12-2 with the win.

David Connors went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, while Matt Geer also drove in three runs. Jacob Lazear tripled and Reno Fuscardo had a double, single and two RBIs. Koleton Grishkevich also plated a run.

On the mound, Lazear went three innings with seven punchouts for the victory.

Reed Wilharm sat down four in the final two innings.

For Oak Glen (6-11) Colt Hissam and Josh Maher each had a base knock.

The Blue Dons are off until Monday, while the Golden Bears are back at home hosting Wellsville tonight.

Brooke claws the Panthers

WEIRTON — One day after getting their bats going in a big win at Big Red, the Brooke baseball team kept the bats going Wednesday against Buckeye Local for another big victory.

The Bruins, which improved to 11-7 on the season, scored three in the third, five in the fourth and two more in the fifth to pull away and enact the run rule for an 11-1 victory over the Panthers.

The win earns a split of the series with Buckeye as the Panthers defeated the Bruins on Monday.

Brooke got a homer, a double and four RBIs from Garrett Moore, while Zac O’Mery had a double, single and drove in five runs.

Henry Anderson had a double and a single with an RBI, while Andrew Murdock also drove in a run and went all five innings on the mound, striking out five in holding the Panthers to two hits.

Grant Dombroski had the lone RBI for Buckeye Local (2-6), while Wyatt Luyster had a double. Dom Kempton struck out six for the Panthers in the loss.

Brooke hosts East Liverpool at Bowman Field on Friday evening. The Panthers host Edison at noon on Friday.

Madonna makes it 14-straight

MORGANTOWN — The Madonna softball team keeps stacking the victories.

The Blue Dons pushed their winning streak to 14 games on Wednesday with a 23-6 win on the road at Trinity Christian on Wednesday evening.

The Dons, now 14-1, trailed 3-2 early before plating six runs in each the second and third innings, adding five in the fourth and four more in the fifth.

Madonna had the bats going with 23 hits in the game, with at least one from every player to get an at bat.

Madi Owens had another monster game with a homer, two doubles and seven RBIs, while Geena Birkhimer had three hits and four RBIs, Rylee Birkhimer went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Peyton Conley had two doubles and four RBIs, Chloe Orecchio had three hits and Kendal Ryan had a double, two singles and three RBIs.

In the circle, Conley struck out six and walked just one for another victory.

The Blue Dons travel to East Liverpool tonight.

Brooke gets first win

WELLSBURG — The Brooke softball team broke through with its first victory of the season Wednesday night in a rematch with Buckeye Local, 9-5.

The Bruins trailed 4-0 early, but rallied with a seven-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning to storm ahead.

Emilee McKinney had a double, single and an RBI for the Bruins, while Emma Hayman had two hits and two RBIs. Maia Diserio had a double and an RBI, while Jazmyn Wood drove in two runs and Emma Bober had a hit and an RBI.

Karson Drumm struck out two in a complete game for the win in the circle.

For the Panthers, Danika Bauknecht had a double, single and two RBIs, while Mady Roset had two hits, Karli Lander doubled and singled and Adison Muldrew and Lexi Neily each had an RBI.

Lander struck out five in the circle.

The Bruins (1-17) host East Liverpool on Friday, while the Panthers (6-7) head to Beaver Local tonight.

Huskies get 10th win

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Harrison Central softball team went on the road to East Liverpool Wednesday and pulled away for the 14-0 victory, putting them into double digits in the win column.

The Huskies, now 10-5, jumped ahead 6-0 in the top of the first and did not look back.

Kelsey Powers had two hits and two RBIs, while Olivia Tonkovich homered, doubled and drove in three runs, while Bailey Smith doubled, singled and plated a run, Cameron Campbell had a double, single and two RBIs and Emma Skinner drove in two runs.

Skinner went the distance in the circle, striking out seven without issuing a walk.

The Huskies host Indian Creek today.

Creek falls to Beaver

WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek softball team dropped an 8-2 decision at home to Beaver Local on Wednesday.

The Redskins dropped to 6-7 with the loss.

Creek got a 3 for 4 day from McKenna Scott, while Rylee Sadler had a double, triple and an RBI and Peyton Rath tripled and drove in a run and Emma Vok had two hits.

Scott came on in relief and struck out four batters without issuing a walk over the final five innings.

Creek travels to Harrison Central today.

Bears drop two in Myrtle

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The second day of the Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach did not go quite as well as the first for Oak Glen.

After winning both of their games on Tuesday, the Golden Bears dropped a pair of contests on Wednesday, falling 4-2 to Moore Catholic (Staten Island N.Y) and 7-3 to Cicero-North (Syracuse, N.Y.).

In the first game, Oak Glen out-hit the Mavericks 13-7 but could not get the needed runs across.

Neveah Heath had a double, while Addie Smith had three hits, Danica Holden and Maddie Murray each had two hits and Riley Bruce had two hits and an RBI, while Mikalyn Balch drove in a run.

Holden struck out four and walked four in the circle.

In the second game, the Bears had a 3-2 lead early on but Cicero scored the final five runs.

Balch had a double and two RBIs, while Smith had two hits and Kayla Wright drove in a run.

Mattie Carney had 10 strikeouts in the circle.

The Golden Bears, now 16-8, have three more games on the trip, taking on Webster Thomas (N.Y) today before playing two more games Friday.
