WELLSBURG — In a rematch of young teams that have had their fair share of struggles, Buckeye Local took control early and made it a season sweep of Brooke Tuesday night inside the Brooke Wellness Center.

The Panthers, who defeated the Bruins at home 12 days earlier to snap a nine-game slide, improved on that performance by taking control early and did not look back on the way to a 56-30 victory.

Buckeye Local, now 3-14, used an 11-0 run to end the first quarter to open an 18-4 lead after one and it never dropped below double digits from there.

The Panthers led the Bruins 29-11 at halftime and led by as many as 27 in the second half.

The Bruins (0-13) did get their offense going a little better in the fourth quarter, netting 14 of their 30 points in the final eight minutes, but never got the deficit below 20.

The Panthers got contributions from seven different players in the win. Buckeye Local also scored double digits in three of four quarters and held the Bruins in single digits in a like number.

LEADING SCORERS

Buckeye Local’s Maddy Roset and Sammi Westfall each netted 14 points to tie for the game-high. Alyssa Dailey added nine and Brooke Driscoll eight.

For the Bruins, Rilyn Bowman netted 12 points, six in each half, while Marionna DiPaolo netted eight.

KEY MOMENTS

On Buckeye Local’s run late in the first quarter that propelled them ahead for good, Driscoll netted a pair of three pointers to help push the lead out into double digits. She had two of the Panthers five triples in the game. Roset made both of her treys in the fourth quarter, when she netted half of her 14 points to help put things away.
