BLACKSVILLE — The Madonna volleyball team’s tourney got off to a victorious start on Monday at Clay-Battelle High School.

The Blue Dons opened their Class A sectional tournament with a pair of victories over fifth-seeded Cameron and an upset of top-seeded Trinity Christian.

The Dons swept the Dragons, then, after dropping the first two sets, won three-straight to come back and knock off the Warriors.

“This was a great team win, our energy and hustle were the best they’ve been all year,” Madonna coach Jaedyn Hissam said. “I am so proud of how far this group has come.”

Sophie Brady had 33 assists, five aces and four digs, Rylee Birkhimer tallied 15 kills, 10 digs and three aces, Madi Owens had 16 kills and 13 digs and Chloe Orecchio tallied 19 digs.

Madonna takes on Clarksburg Notre Dame today for a spot in the section final.
