WEIRTON -- The Blue Dons are back in the win column and getting healthy for the stretch run.
Madonna snapped a three-game losing streak, all to tough opponents, and got its offense back on track with a big win over Beallsville at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
In that game, the Dons, now 3-3, got senior speedster Jonah McKay back in the mix from a preseason injury and got a huge night from QB Chase Littleton.
They'll look to carry that momentum into this week when they welcome Richwood to Weirton for a 7 p.m. Friday night contest looking for back-to-back wins.
"It was a very big win and very big confidence boost for the kids," first-year Madonna head coach Troy Fetty said. "It was probably our best game overall this season.
"We had three really rough weeks against three teams that are a combined 20-2 now. Beallsville was a good team, too, our kids just came out ready to play.
"Chase Littleton said right before we came out onto the field, 'This is where we change our season,' and we came out and played really well, and hopefully we come out and do it again and get another W."
The win last week put the Blue Dons back into playoff contention in West Virginia Class A, as they sit at No. 18 in the latest standings, just outside the top 16 by .16 of a percentage point.
In the victory, Littleton threw for 125 yards and a score and ran for 194 yards and four Tds, giving him a five touchdown night.
"Chase had a fantastic game, and we blocked very well," Fetty said. "We were able to spread it out with Jonah back, that was big to have him and Koleton (Grishkevich).
"We're looking to have another good week of practice and to be ready to go. We want to continue that momentum."
For the season, he has 592 passing yards and eight scores through the air and another 460 yards and eight more TDs with his feet.
Koleton Grishkevich added to his team-leading receiving totals with three grabs and a score, now totaling 263 yards and four scores on the season with 17 catches.
The Lumberjacks come in with an 0-7 mark and seeking their first win of the season. They do, however, have the ability to score some points as they have scored at least 10 points in each of their last four games and eclipsed 20 twice in that span.
They average 12 points for and 33.3 against.
"They haven't won any games yet, but they have a really athletic quarterback and they have a big line," Fetty said. "They've been competitive in their last couple games. They like to run the quarterback.
"Defensively they run the same defense as Beallsville, which helps our preparation."
Madonna, on the other hand, is scoring an average of 22 points and allowing 18.5. The Dons have scored 30-plus in each of their three wins.
"Anything can happen when you're playing a team that is backed up in a corner," Fetty said. "They're trying to get a win and they may change things up on you, we have to be prepared for anything."
The remaining schedule for Madonna consists of 4-4 Conotton Valley, 2-4 Wirt County and 0-6 Calhoun. The last two of which are on the road.
