WEIRTON -- Madonna High School announced Wednesday that Troy Fetty has been appointed its new head football coach.
Fetty, was was on the staff as an assistant, replaces Ted Arneault Jr., who resigned Tuesday to accept the position of principal at Weir High School.
Fetty's coaching career includes various stints as an assistant coach at Brooke, Buckeye Local, Edison, and Weir High.
He has also served as junior high head wrestling coach at Buckeye Local and Weir Middle Schools and, most recently, as the head softball coach at Buckeye Local.
Throughout his football coaching career, Fetty has been a part of several milestones for the teams he coached -- including helping Buckeye Local reach its first playoff appearance since 2009 in 2021 and securing the program's first V.A.L.E.S. Trophy game win against Harrison Central; helped Weir High reach the 2018 WVSSAC Class AA state semifinal and earn its first playoff victory since 2008; helped Weir High School acheive four consecutive WVSSAC AA playoff appearances; assisted at Brooke High School during the 2010 West Virginia AAA state championship game; contributed to the victorious West Virginia squad in the 2010 OVAC All-Star Game; and has coached 21 players who continued their athletic and academic careers at the college level.
"I am honored to lead the football program at Madonna High School," Fetty said in a press release from the school. "My love for the game, experience and dedication to player development will drive us to achieve new successes together."
"Madonna High School is thrilled to have coach Fetty at the helm and is confident that his passion for the game and coaching knowledge will empower the Blue Dons to maintain their tradition of excellence on and off the gridiron," Principal Philip Rujak said in the release from the school, "We are grateful that coach Fetty has quickly stepped up to lead our Blue Dons this season. He is a fantastic coach and will be a great addition to our coaching staff. We wish Arneault the best as he begins his new position as principal at Weir High School."
