Allen’s Ohio OVAC All-Star roster takes shape with final picks

WHEELING — Blake Allen has completed his Ohio roster for the 77th annual OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Football Game. The Barnesville head coach selects his running backs, wide receivers/tight ends and linebackers.

“We’ve got a good mix of size and speed in the backfield. There are some guys that can flat-out run and there are some guys that are bruisers,” Allen noted. “I think we will be able to get to the edge as well as pound it up the middle.”

The running backs are:

JAKSAN PRICE, Union Local — A 5-11, 195-pounder, Price ran for 3,750 yards and scored 40 touchdowns for the Jets.

He was an all-state honoree, along with all-OVAC and all-Eastern District.

Jaksan is the son of Jamie and Tammy Price of New Athens.

MARSHAL SAYRE, Caldwell — This 5-10, 200-pounder had 3,618 career rushing yards for the Redskins while scoring 46 touchdowns. He averaged 8.5 yards per carry. Defensively, he charted 227 tackles, intercepted half-a-dozen passes and forced a trio of fumbles.

Sayre was first-team all-Ohio as a senior and third team as a junior.

He will attend Muskingum University in the fall.

Marshal is the son of Michael and Melinda Sayre of Caldwell.

TY’LIK SIMS, Steubenville — A 6-0, 185-pound athlete, Sims was all-Ohio, all-OVAC and all-Eastern District while at Big Red.

Sims will also see action in the defensive backfield.

He will attend Amherst College to continue his academic and athletic careers.

Ty’lik is the son of Sasha Sims of Steubenville.

The wide receivers are:

BRODY LOLLATHIN, River — This 5-10, 185-pounder did just about everything for the Pilots during his four-year career.

As a senior, he ran for 479 yards and seven TDs while hauling in passes for 1,115 stripes and 16 six-pointers. On defense, he had 75 tackles, with 39 being solo, intercepted two passes and returned a pair of punts for TDs. He was the Eastern District Offensive Player of the Year and earned first-team all-Ohio Division VII honors.

He will enter the electrician’s union.

Brody is the son of Dan and Sabrina Lollathin of Clarington.

DAVION BAHR, Cambridge — A 6-3, 180-pounder, Bahr broke the Bobcats’ sing;e-season record for TD receptions with 18.

He will attend Marietta College in the fall to continue his academic and athletic careers.

Damion is the son of LaToya and Abdulai Bahr of Cambridge.

ZANE KINSEY, Toronto — A 5-10, 180-pound sprinter, Kinsey was an honorable mention all-Ohio Division VII selection.

He will attend Walsh University in the fall.

Zane is the son of Ted and Jill Kinsey of Wellsville.

RAY RAY PETTIGREW, Bellaire — This 5-10, 165-pounder can literally fly, be it catching passes, returning kickoff and punts or running back interceptions. He set the Big Reds record for pick-6s.

Pettigrew was a two-time all-Ohio selection and a three-time all-Valley honoree.

He will attend the University of Findlay.

Ray Ray is the son of Mary Pope and resides in Martins Ferry.

MASON ABERTS, Bridgeport — A 5-10, 160-pound versatile athlete starred on both sides of the football for the Bulldogs.

Defensively, Aberts made 94 tackles and, on offense, he caught 43 passes for 668 yards and scored seven touchdowns.

He will continue his academic and athletic careers at Bethany College.

Mason is the son of Carma Taylor and Erick Aberts of Bridgeport.

ANDREW VERA, St. Clairsville — A 6-0, 170-pounder, Vera was the starting quarterback for the Red Devils.

Both a passer and a runner, he accounted for 1,700 yards on 109 completions, with 18 going for touchdowns. He also ran for 870 yards and an additional 15 six-pointers.

He earned first-team all-OVAC, first-team All-Buckeye 8 and first-team all-Eastern District. He was honorable mention all-Ohio.

He will attend Ohio University.

Andrew is the son of Rob and Jennifer Vera of St. Clairsville.

The tight ends are:

LANDYN HORES, Martins Ferry — A 6-5, 200-pounder, Hores caught 26 passes for 531 yards and nine touchdowns for the Purple Riders. On defense, he amassed 92 tackles, 11 TFLs, had four quarterback sacks and recovered two fumbles.

He will attend Wheeling University in the fall.

Landyn is the son of Jay and Karlie Hores of Martins Ferry.

LUCCA MORELLI, Indian Creek — A 6-12, 210-pounder, Morelli was a two-time honorable mention All-Ohioan for the Redskins. He was also first-team All-Buckeye 8.

He will attend Heidelberg University.

Lucca is the son of Cortney and Rich Morelli of Steubenville.

The linebackers are:

TREY HOOVER, Buckeye Local — This 6-0, 225-pounder was a two-way standout for the Panthers.

Defensively, he charted 100-plus tackles his final three years, with 130 his senior season. On offense, he gained more than 1,000 yards in each of the aforementioned seasons, with 1,300 in his sophomore season.

He was a three-time All-Ohioan.

Trey is the son of Jim and Robyn Hoover of Mingo Junction.

ZAIDEN HUCK, Fort Frye — A 5-11, 195-pounder was also a two-way threat for the Cadets.

Defensively, he was a first-team Division VI all-Ohioan linebacker and participated in the North-South Game.

He was also first-team all-Eastern District and first-team all-OVAC after making 200-plus tackles and averaging 196 yards per catch as a tight end..

Huck is committed to Marietta College.

Zaiden is the son of Chad and Missy Huck of Beverly.

KYJHAUN HOPKINS, Steubenville — This 5-11, 180-pounder was a two-way performer for Big Red.

Defensively, he logged 88 tackles and was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Offensively, he had 13 receptions for 265 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

He will attend Notre Dame College in the fall to continue his academic and athletic careers.

KyJhaun is the son of Markis Hopkins and Erica Pitts.

MATTHEW PARSONS, Edison — A 6-1, 195-pounder, Parsons played linebacker on defense and split time at fullback and tight end on offense as the Wildcats went 10-0 in the regular season.

On defense he charted 103 tackles, with 10 being behind the line of scrimmage. He also had one quarterback sack and one interception.

He received first-team all-Ohio in Division V. He was also all-Eastern District and all-OVAC.

Matthew is the son of Joe and Krista Parsons of Hammondsville.

GEORGE HULSEY, Martins Ferry — A 5-9, 180-pounder, Hulsey was a three-year letterman for the Purple Riders. He lettered four years as a wrestler.

He saw most of his playing time as a standout linebacker, while also serving as a blocking fullback.

Hulsey will further his academic and athletic careers at Bethany College.

George is the son of Frank Conner and Kristi Hulsey of Martins Ferry.

The game is set for Saturday, July 22 at 7:15 p.m. at Wheeling Island Stadium.
