MORGANTOWN -- The Madonna football team fell on the road Friday night at Morgantown Trinity Christian, 31-14, and came up just short in the Class A playoff race.
The Warriors, who closed the season 7-2 and finished in the No. 10 spot in the final rankings, opened up a 24-0 halftime lead then did enough in the second half to fend off the Blue Dons.
Madonna closes the season at 6-4 and finished tied for 18th place, two spots and just .2 percentage points outside the playoff cut of the top 16.
After getting down in the first half, Madonna got a pair of rushing scores from Seth Humberson in second half to close to within 24-14, but the Warriors scored a late touchdown for the final margin.
Humberson, one of the Blue Dons seniors, finished with 121 yards on 16 carries and the two scores, and also had a pair of catches.
Senior QB Santino Arlia ended his school record-setting career by going 11 of 27 for 169 yards, but also had three picks.
