Creek’s Robinson selected on Division IV first team list

Indian Creek head coach Andrew Connor said all season his team played hard regardless of the score or their record.

That was evidenced by the number of kids that his team landed on the East District Division IV list, led by Isaac Robinson's recognition as a first team defense.

Robinson, a junior, compiled 47 tackles, 32 solo, three for a loss, two passes broken up, two interception and a return for a touchdown.

"That is great," Connor said of Robinson being selected on the first team. "He made big plays for us. He played the run like a linebacker and the pass like a safety. He came down and made a lot of big tackles for us. He is a very physical DB, one of those throwback DBs because he played the position very well and really helped us.

"He had really good junior season for us."

He was far from the only Redskin recognized, as Sam Coleman, JJ Orlando and Cam Franke made second team.

Coleman, a senior, was one of the Herald-Star/Daily Times coverage area's top receivers all season despite being on a predominantly run-centered offense with 23 catches for 326 yards and four touchdowns, an average of 14.6 yards per catch, an average of better than 20 yards on punt returns and 27 yards on kick returns.

"He ran really great routes, work hard in practice was just our guy," Connor said of his playmaker. "We tried to get the ball to him when we could. He always came up with big plays for us on both sides of the ball. He helped our young kids learn what it takes to be a competitor.

"He worked hard and he earned being an all-district player. He was able to get open a lot and we knew he could make plays for us."

Orlando, a senior lineman for Connor, had a 92 percent blocking grade and four pancake blocks.

"JJ is a three-year starter for us and a great kid," Connor said. "He was a great mentor to our young linemen that played this year. He was able to do a lot of things for us, he could pull well, he pass-blocked well, he was just a hard worker from Day 1 and gave our young kids a good role model.

"His efforts are very much appreciated by myself, the rest of the staff and our kids."

Franke, a senior linebacker, finished with 64 tackles, 30 solo, nine for a loss, three QB hurries, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

"Cam did a lot for us, he was our go-to guy in the middle," Connor said. "We've had a good tradition of middle linebackers and he made the calls for us on the field and the adjustments. As our defense started to play well in the second half of the season, it was under his leadership."

Also getting recognition for the Redskins was Luca Morelli as a special mention and Eli Powell and Gavin Dondzilla as honorable mentions.
