Big Red working hard despite not having a game

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red football team will not be taking the field this week. It was announced over the weekend that this week’s opponent, Dunbar from the Washington, D.C. area, would not be making the trip to Steubenville due to a scheduling conflict. While not an ideal situation, it does give Big Red a chance to regroup after dropping its first two games to two very good football teams. Brooke looks to bounce back when its hosts Linsly

WELLSBURG — Believe it or not, Friday will be the first meeting between the Brooke Bruins and Linsly Cadets in the two schools’ long histories. MALVERN — Harrison Central overcame some early mental errors, a subpar week of practice and the emotional hangover that comes from losing one of their own last Friday against Newcomerstown. The Huskies trialed 20-7 before quarterback Brady Hyre led a comeback, passing for two touchdowns as part of 21 unanswered points to put the visitors up 21-20. NEW MANCHESTER — Two teams coming off season-opening victories will square off Friday in New Manchester when St. Marys heads north to take on Oak Glen. Red Knights re-kindle rivalry with trip to Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — After a brief hiatus, the rivalry between the Toronto football team and Wellsville will be renewed this week. The Red Knights and Tigers are set to meet at 7 p.m. Friday night up at Nicholson Stadium. The two river rivals last met in 2022 with the Red Knights coming out on top, 34-6, in Week 1 at Nicholson Stadium. “It is an important game for the Gem City,” Aubiel said. “Wellsville is a big rival.
