CADIZ -- There really is no place like home. Just ask Harrison Central head coach Anthony Hayes as his team prepares to for its home opener, hosting Buckeye Trail Friday night after a 36-18 win on the road at Claymont last week.
"It's very exciting," Harrison Central head coach Anthony Hayes said of the week of the home opener. "We love to play at home. I don't think there is a better venue in the Valley. That's no disrespect to anyone else, but I don't think there's another place in the Valley quite like Wagner Field.
"No. 1 we have the best fans. No. 2, we have incredible facilities. We always look forward to playing in front of our home crowd and it's always more comfortable playing at the place you're familiar with, so we're really looking forward to hosting that first home game."
Despite the season-opening victory, Hayes knows his team still has things to work on.
"We just have to keep doing the little things right and keep getting better every day," Hayes said. "We're definitely not going to be defined by last week's game, we're still trying to figure out who we are and we need to continue to work hard to mold ourselves into the kind of team that we want to be.
"Right now, we're nowhere near that so we've got to keep our noses down on the grindstone and keep grinding away."
In the victory, Mykel Quito ran for four touchdowns and topped the 100-yard mark, while went over 200-yards passing as the offense racked up 375 total yards.
Despite the Warriors falling in their opener, 17-6 to Caldwell, Hayes expects them to be a tough opponent when they make the trip to Cadiz on Friday night.
"What we've seen on film is their kids are going to play hard and they're going to play physical," Hayes said. "Their quarterback is pretty good athlete and they are going to be physical up front, so we need to be able to match that physicality and exceed it.
"We kind of have an idea as far as match ups from scouting and what not ... the bottom line for us is we have to show up ready to play."
The Huskies took a 21-14 win on the road last season.
