CALCUTTA -- The Edison football team is traveling north to Columbiana County for the third time in four weeks to take on talented Beaver Local.
The Wildcats and Beavers will meet for the third straight season with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Friday night at Fighting Beaver Stadium.
Both teams are entering the game coming off of a loss last week. Edison (0-3) fell at home to Toronto 34-13, while Beaver Local lost 28-17 on the road against Linsly at West Liberty.
In their game, the Wildcats trailed the Red Knights 14-13 in the third quarter before Toronto tallied the final 20 points of the game.
"After looking at film, we are still a work in progress, still making correctable mistakes," Edison head coach Nate Moses said. "Our efforts this week have been focused on correcting those mistakes and prepping for Beaver."
Former Edison head coach Mike McKenzie is in his first season as head coach at Beaver Local (2-1). McKenzie resigned following the 2013 season.
Edison opened the season with a 21-0 loss to East Liverpool up at Patterson Field before falling 26-14 to Wellsville in Week 2 at Nicholson Stadium.
Meanwhile, Beaver Local opened the season with a 66-6 victory over Wellsville at home before beating West Branch 39-36 on the road in Week 2.
The Beavers have shown the ability to put points on the scoreboard in a variety of ways thus far.
"Offensively, Beaver will throw a lot of formations at us," Moses said. "Our initial focus will be to get aligned. Their line is big and athletic, their backs run hard, and they have good team speed."
Beaver Local also has good speed on the defensive side of the ball, while also having some hard hitters.
"Defensively, we see a lot of speed," Moses said. "Their secondary does an outstanding job of coming up and making big hits, and they run the alley really well."
The Wildcats did a good job running last week against the Red Knights. Senior Seth Cade tallied 113 yards on 21 carries, while River Pappas produced 38 yards on two carries. Quarterback Kenny Cranston ran and threw for a touchdown in the game.
Last season, Beaver Local defeated Edison 28-14 in Week 4 out at Cartwright Memorial Field. The Beavers defeated the Wildcats in a high-scoring affair, 48-33, back in Week 4 of the 2015 season at home.
"Our success on Friday night will be measured in what we do," Moses said. "We need to fix mistakes, continue to play hard, finish drives on both sides of the ball and continue to play our game."
