Panthers are headed down to River looking to get into the win column
HANNIBAL — Buckeye Local hosted Bellaire in its opener and had trouble corralling the Big Reds’ weapons in a 31-6 defeat.
Bellaire QB Micheal Dippel tossed two TDs and threw for 131 yards while running back Rylin McMahon found the end zone twice and led the way with 53 yards.
Buckeye now must gear up to stop a more run-oriented attack as the Panthers (0-1) head south on Ohio 7 to face River (1-0).
The Pilots are coming off a 36-12 win against Perry Traditional Academy out of Pittsburgh in a game which the two teams traded scores before River started pulling away.
River’s ground-based attack featured the rushing of both Stalder and Bennett. Stalder led the way with 104 yards on 17 carries, while Bennett tacked on 95 on 12 carries as the team totals neared the 200-yard mark (195 on 42). When River did pass, Trail Thompson completed 7 of his 10 throws with a touchdown.
Buckeye, meanwhile, was led by quarterback Grant Dombroski’s 98 passing yards and 39 rushing yards. Dombroski also accounted for the Panthers’ lone touchdown when he reached the end zone on the ground.
Daniel Divjack was the main beneficiary, hauling in seven pases for 68 yards. Chase Worwa led the Panthers on the ground with 62 yareds on eight carries, followed by Dombroski’s totals.
Last season, the Pilots took down the Panthers 39-9, in a Week 9 matchup at Yorkville.
