Ranked Red Knights head to Newcomerstown

NEWCOMERSTOWN -- The Toronto football team has had to deal Mother Nature as well as its opponents the last two weeks, however, neither has been able to slow the Red Knights down once they got rolling.
The start of Toronto's game last week against Weir at Jimmy Carey Stadium was delayed more than an hour, however, once the game started, it was all Red Knights as the boys from the Gem City shut out the Red Riders, 50-0, to remain undefeated on the season.
"It was a good night," first-year Toronto (3-0) head coach Jaret Aubiel said. "All the credit goes to my staff and players. It has very little to do with me. I love my staff, and we love our players. I'm blessed."
Two weeks ago, Toronto's game against Lowellville at Clarke Hinkle Field was delayed more than two hours due to inclement weather. Toronto got off to a bit of a slow start once the game against the Rockets was restarted, however, the Red-and-White eventually found their footing and rolled to a 56-27 victory via mercy rule.
"The first week against Lowellville I thought we were not as prepared as I would have liked us to have been coming out of the delay," Aubiel said. "Friday night, I think we learned from that experience. I thought we were a lot more prepared, and we came out on fire."
This week, Toronto is hoping to just have to deal with its opponent -- undefeated Newcomerstown. The Red Knights will be on the road for the second straight week as they take on the Trojans at 7 p.m. Friday night at Lee Stadium.
"They are a very good football team," Aubiel said. "They are well coached. They have good athletes. They do the little things well. This week is going to be one heck of a challenge."
Newcomerstown opened the season by defeating Berne Union, 42-7, before posting back-to-back shutouts against Beallsville, 40-0, and Conotton Valley, 50-0.
"They run the old school wishbone," Aubiel said. "They some Wing-T. It will be interesting because f how we exited the layoffs last year against Norwalk St. Paul. They are kind of the same type of team. It will be interesting to see how we have improved since then and how it helps us prepare for that."
The Knights are familiar with Newcomerstown's defensive alignment.
"They run a 3-3-5," Aubiel said. "We have seen that a lot lately. That will help us prepare for this week."
The boys from Tuscarawas County have some good size up front on their lines.
"They have some big kids," Aubiel said. "They're athletic. They fire off the line well. They are are going to be a challenge for us up front."
The Red Knights are going to have to play a solid game all around if they want to return home with their fourth victory of the season.
"We are going to have to play a clean and disciplined game, and see where the chips fall," Aubiel said.
Toronto was ranked No. 9 in Division VI in the first Ohio Associated Press High School Football poll on Tuesday.
