“Advanced Women’s Healthcare, Close to Home”

For women in Wheeling and the surrounding areas, access to advanced gynecologic care close to home can make all the difference. WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital combines patient-focused care with state-of-the art surgical technology to treat a range of conditions from endometriosis to stress urinary incontinence. Women can feel confident that they are receiving world-class care close to home with doctors they trust.

One such doctor is Annie Roslonski, DO, a gynecologic surgeon at Wheeling Hospital. Dr. Roslonski received her medical degree from Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Virginia and is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Certified in da Vinci robotic surgery, Dr. Roslonski routinely performs minimally invasive gynecologic surgical procedures. She also provides comprehensive women’s health services.

For many women, it can be difficult to seek help for conditions like pelvic pain and incontinence or even to receive routine gynecologic care. But preventive care is vital for staying healthy, and seeking medical care for these issues can help improve quality of life and prevent more serious problems.

“It’s natural to feel awkward discussing personal issues, but from my perspective, there is absolutely nothing strange about it. I’m here to help,” says Dr. Roslonski. “The more open and honest a patient can be, the better I can support them. Advocating for your health is so important!”

One issue that affects many women is unexplained pelvic pain, for which there can be many different causes.

“In my practice, we start by really listening to the patient, performing a physical exam and sometimes ordering imaging,” says Roslonski.

Every woman is different, and treating each patient as an individual with different symptoms and health history is vital to determining the best course of treatment.

“It’s all about a thorough, individualized process to find relief.”

One common gynecologic issue is excessive or unexplained bleeding. Many times, this issue can be resolved with hormonal medication. Sometimes, like in the case of severe endometriosis, surgical ablation can be used to address frequent bleeding and pain.

Several women’s health conditions arise as a result of weakened pelvic floor muscles resulting from childbirth, but women who have not given birth can experience these problems as well. For issues like stress urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, Dr. Roslonski starts with the least invasive treatments like pelvic floor physical therapy. Many women find relief from a pessary, which is a simple medical device that helps support the pelvic organs non-surgically.

When non-invasive options have been exhausted, surgery may be recommended.

“Surgery is only considered if other treatments haven’t provided enough symptom relief for the patient. It’s all about personalizing the path based on each patient’s goals and how they respond,” says Dr. Roslonski.

Gynecologic surgery has advanced quickly in recent years, with minimally invasive techniques resulting in less pain and quicker recoveries.

“I am passionate about using modern techniques like the da Vinci Robotic System,” says Dr. Roslonski. The robotic-assisted surgical method has articulated wrists that allow for incredibly precise and accurate movements.

“This means smaller incisions, less pain, reduced complications, a faster recovery and shorter hospital stays–helping patients get back to their lives sooner.”

Gynecologic care isn’t only for when there is an issue; routine checkups are also a vital part of women’s health.

“Cervical cancer screening through Pap smears can help detect precancerous cells and lead to treatment before it turns into cancer. Cervical cancer can be asymptomatic,” says Dr. Roslonski.

Routine gynecology care is also important to address other reproductive and women’s health needs.

According to Dr. Roslonski, practicing at Wheeling Hospital allows her to offer patients the highest standard of care, thanks to the support of WVU Medicine.

“I love being a part of WVU Medicine because their mission is truly centered on excellent patient care. They are always evolving–adopting the latest standards, technologies, and evidence-based practices– so patients can expect compassionate, cutting-edge care every step of the way.”
