Some of life’s little moments we all seem to share
Life often gives us little moments. Moments when we experience something … unique, something out of the ordinary.
Something that makes us wonder if we are cursed or simply have a run of bad luck.
And it makes us ask ourself if there is anybody else out there who has ever had these unfortunate instances happen to them.
Times when we think, this kind of thing can’t possibly just be happening to me, can it?
Now, I’m not referring to moments when we play the lottery and come away with only a losing ticket to show for our dollar.
Nor am I talking about being late for work because we didn’t hear our alarm clock go off. OK, yes we heard it go off but we hit snooze a couple times before turning it off and falling back asleep.
No, I am referring to moments when you begin to think God has you on “Candid Camera” and people are laughing at you, but only because … well, because life gives us little moments we all share.
And if, by chance, you have never had these things happen before, play along anyway.
I know for a fact we have all walked into a room and can’t remember why we went in there in the first place.
And then, after we leave said room, it finally hits us what we wanted, so we have to turn around and go back inside.
OK, now we are finally in the right place and we remember what it is that we came for. We’re doing pretty good.
Then you realize that whatever it was we came in for we no longer have in the house.
So, it looks like we are going to the store, so we can spend money on something we don’t have and for something we don’t need but for something we want. At least we have a plan.
But now, you don’t even know if the store is open, because you laid down to take a nap and when you woke up, it is after dark.
So, either it is evening or morning, but you can’t tell which.
Why? Because 6 p.m. looks like 6 a.m. during the winter.
Let’s say it is 6 p.m. There’s still time.
You can still get to the store.
You hurriedly get in the car and head to your destination.
It’s a pretty good ways away, so you decide to play the radio rather than ride in silence.
Of course, absolutely nothing is on that you want to listen to.
Nothing.
You search dozens of stations and still can not find anything worth listening to. As you are now twisting the knob looking for those in-between stations the radio often misses, you approach those two lanes of traffic we once talked about … the ones with a large truck in each lane.
It is your job to decide in that split second which truck will pull away faster once the light turns green.
You quickly make your choice, then opt for the other one, only because every time you have a 50/50 shot at choosing the right answer you choose the incorrect one.
You get in your lane. You stay in your lane, only to discover that you bet on the wrong horse.
The vehicle in front of you cannot seem to get up past 10 miles per hour for at least a good two minutes.
And you cannot pass because everyone else on this section of road chose the right horse to bet on when they caught the light and had to make a decision.
Now you are mad at strangers for picking the right lane while you are stuck behind someone who obviously has nowhere he has to be.
So, you decide to keep messing with the radio channels some more.
Still nothing. That $26 you spent on Sirius XM for the month is not paying off very well.
Finally, you reach your destination. But there is nowhere to park.
So you drive around the parking lot a few times until you finally see a space opening up.
And wouldn’t you know it, it’s fairly close to the doors.
Maybe your luck is changing. Hmm.
You sit with your turn signal on, waiting for the car to back out of its’ space.
And that is when another car appears from the opposite direction out of nowhere and hurriedly pulls in. Meanwhile, you’re still sitting there with your blinker flashing.
You swear repeatedly under your breath at the driver and continue to search for another place to park as the radio is still playing songs that never should have even made it onto the airwaves.
You decide you are ready to go back to bed no matter what time of the day or even what day of the week it actually is, because you have had enough.
Instead, we go into the store because the faster we get in and out the faster we can be home.
Upon entering, there is a display of sale items. So you begin browsing.
Then, you begin shopping. All of a sudden, you begin dropping stuff because your arms are full.
Now, you have to put everything down somewhere and go get that buggy that you thought you didn’t need at the front of the store.
You finally make it back to the car and out of the parking lot, just in time to catch another red light.
Another couple of trucks.
Still changing the radio stations that are still playing nothing.
You begin to pull in your driveway and now, you’re all-time favorite song starts playing.
And yes, you choose to sit in your car in the driveway and listen until its over.
You carry everything into the house, unpack it, put it away and realize you have bought everything except the one thing you went to the store to get.
I do this all the time. I’m just really hoping someone else does at least a few of these things, too.
