Let’s keep libraries strong
To the editor:
Most members of the general population use libraries for various reasons. Some check out books for all ages including toddlers and older people. Some people visit a library for access to their internet resources. No matter how the public uses libraries in their area, it is important to keep these libraries open to the public.
As a retired local history librarian at one of the branches of the Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County Ohio, I can attest to the importance of supporting the levy to keep libraries open to all people in Ohio and elsewhere. People may need a document notarized, or learn about the items in the local history room which contains information on all kinds of topics including books on the history of steel making in the Tri-State Area. Other people come in to see if they or their ancestors are mentioned in the military series that cover men and women who lived in Jefferson County and served in the military in the Civil War through the Persian Gulf War. Some visitors to any of the library branches may come in to just sit and relax and get away from the stress of working.
Whatever the reason is, if the library system is important to you, please vote yes to keep the libraries going strong.
