To the editor:
When does life begin?
Regardless of opinions, regardless of laws, regardless of constitutions, science confirms that at the very moment of conception, a genetically unique human being is created. This human being is different from any other person in the history of the world, and different from any person who will be created in the future. You and I, and all of the people we know, began our lives at the very moment of conception.
With this fact established, then it is also a fact that every abortion ends the life of a unique person. That cannot be disputed. A life ended by abortion is a life that will never be created again.
The argument, in relation to abortion, that a woman has the right to make a choice regarding her body is based on the untrue narrative that an unborn child is a "part" of a women's body like a kidney or lung. That is simply not the case. The unborn child is a unique human being living in the womb of the mother, a person different than any person who ever lived or will live, with the mother supplying nutrition and oxygen.
Ending the life of an innocent human being is not health care and should never be tolerated in a society, yet that is what is occurring with abortion. No doubt, there are difficult situations in life. But the solution to a difficult situation must not be to end the life of an innocent person.
Family, friends, churches and society as a whole should be supportive of a mother and unborn child, including those times when the circumstances are difficult. God, the creator of all life, has given us the precious gift of life. Let us together choose life.
