The Trump personality cult

2 min read

To the editor:

How telling is it that former President Donald J. Trump's current, who also happens to be his third, wife, Melania, has literally not appeared at any recent campaign event in support of her husband in his quest to regain the presidency, as reportedly been the case for months? In addition, the current Mrs. Trump failed to appear during her husband's seven-week long trial in Manhattan, in which Trump was found guilty on three felony counts for his $130,000 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016 in order to prevent the electorate from being informed of such facts that he feared could well impact the 2016 presidential election, which he eventually won. All this while his wife was pregnant with their son, Barron.

In addition, it has been reported that Mrs. Trump has seldom been seen with her husband at their current residence, the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Perhaps her husband's unacceptable, disrespectful and illegal behavior is finally, sadly, taking its toll on his third wife?

Also, how is it that a majority of evangelical Christians, who recently have promoted the posting of the Ten Commandments in public schools, so strongly support Trump when he, without question violates the vast majority of the sacred commandments daily, a number even several times daily?

Recall also that a federal civil jury unanimously determined that Trump has sexually assaulted writer E. Jean Caroll in the 1990s, and that Trump also has defamed her, for which he was ordered to pay her $5 million for his horrific behavior

Why is it that so many continue to apparently choose to ignore or discount Trump's multitude of inappropriate words and actions, as well as his near-constant lying and insidious name calling, as well as his obvious disrespect for the rule of law, our democratic system of government and our international allies, which would have derailed the political career of any other candidate for elective office, let alone for the highest office in our land long ago?

Trump and his sycophantic followers, described as members of the Trump personality cult, must be held accountable, for if they are not, I fear that the well-being of our great nation might not be able to recover and survive, and will not be able to continue as the world's greatest and most highly respected nation.
