To the editor:
In my most recent letter to the editor, I waxed poetic about many of the reasons one should not vote for Donald Trump. So, in the interest of fairness, I thought I'd write expounding all the reasons to not vote for Joe Biden. Other than he had one bad debate, couldn't think of any, so I turned to conservative social media and got my info the same way everyone there does, I looked at the memes. Turns out MAGA memes don't know why one shouldn't vote Biden either, but they do extol reasons to vote Trump.
First, I found a Facebook meme implying that since the signers of the Declaration of Independence were felons it's a good thing Trump is also a felon. Though it's technically not true the founders were felons, it is true they engaged in some of the same felonious (at the time) behaviors as Donald Trump, such as insurrection and treason. But there are actually more similarities not even mentioned in the meme. For example, like Trump the founders were also racists who fought for legislation that would give women fewer rights than men. Also, like Trump they didn't pay their "workers," and they had fake hair. Can't say any of that about Biden. Point: Trump.
Next, I turned to Instagram where I found a meme showing Jesus comforting Trump saying, "It's OK. They found me guilty too." Also, a fact. Although, it's basically the same fact as in the "founders" meme, so it's not really a second reason to vote Trump. Which got me trying to come up with other ways we might compare Trump to Christ. This was harder, but I finally came up with something. During his lifetime, Jesus - like Trump - never read the New Testament. Take that Biden. Point: Trump.
Next, I buckled in and looked at Twitter (which I refuse to call X, because that's a really stupid name.) It did not disappoint. Actually, it did disappoint … a lot … but at least I was able to find pro-Trump memes.
One I found said "Thank you President Trump for holding our enemies accountable instead of sending them cash." I was baffled momentarily, but then I realized that it was referring to Trump's brilliant trick of calling our long-time adversaries, "best friends" and redefining accountability to mean "taking money they offered to look the other way." Like how Trump brilliantly got a billion dollars through his son-in-law from Saudi Arabia and all it cost was one American journalist's life. Or how he got his daughter several patents in China simply by preventing sanctions over their human rights violations. Biden never thought to try that. Point: Trump again!
So, there you have it. The memes favor Trump over Biden three points to none. In closing I'll mention one last meme -- the one of Drew Carey from "Whose Line is it Anyway?" where he's sitting at his desk holding his buzzer and reminding you "everything is made up and the points don't matter."
