Constitution or cult

3 min read

To the editor:

During the Supreme Court oral arguments on presidential immunity, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson conferred ... if the most powerful person in the world (the U.S. president) would go into the Oval Office knowing there would be no penalty for committing crimes, what disincentive is there to turning the Oval Office into a seat of criminal activity in this country? The Supreme Court is still weighing a determination on the subject of immunity.

Recently, right-wing lawyers and scholars filed a brief disqualifying Trump from running for president because of his clinging to power during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. They cite, it is against our 14th Amendment, Article 3 for anyone to indulge in such activity. These federalist scholars say the original interpretation of the Amendment states anyone who takes part in a rebellion should never serve in office again... no doubt this will end up on the desks of the Justices of the Supreme Court and will be cited in many such court proceedings in the future.

I guess we'll have to see how it goes with the highest court in the land. These Yale law grads and professors are William Baude and Michael Stokes Paulson. They are not fly-by-night lawyers. They study this stuff for the most part of their professions. Their interpretation is that Donald Trump's actions should disqualify him from running for president.

There are very few Republicans in the Senate or House who will speak out about Trump's unfitness to be president or once again step foot in the Oval Office, or be trusted with national secrets.

The majority of the GOP has morphed into an unrecognizable bunch of sycophants. They are quick to assault the American justice system. They have become the felonious, election subversionists, celebrating and rewarding criminals for spearheading the fake electors in such states as Arizona and Nevada. They are giving these alleged criminals delegate seats to the GOP National Convention and the state representation of committees, while they await their fate ... a bunch of outlaws who joined the cult of Trump?

When Trump lost the election of 2020, he refused a peaceful transition of power by wielding his followers and others who would like nothing more than to overthrow the government, to stop this transfer of power on Jan. 6. And, to this day, he refuses to acknowledge his defeat.

There is no doubt that the vast majority of Republicans are singing his same old tune. They line up on the Sunday morning shows and to this day refuse to acknowledge Trump's loss, because they fear retribution from the cult and its leader.

When voting for a president on Nov. 5, keep in mind that no one is above the law. It's pretty easy for me. Joe Biden is not the lesser of two evils. He's a far better human and it's not even close. Have a backbone. Don't fall in line with the cult.
