To the editor:
I'm writing to alert readers to House Joint Resolution 5, now making its way through the Ohio House. The title of this legislation refers to the right to hunt and fish in our state. But it also protects the use of leghold traps, baiting and hounding an animal to death. This provision would mean a slow and painful death for any animal which is targeted.
And this would not be just a law, it would be enshrined in the Ohio Constitution. So our constitution would be used to protect several forms of animal cruelty. Please write to your state representative and let them know how you feel about House Joint Resolution 5.
