Make sure you vote Nov. 7

2 min read

To the editor:

Every November, whether it be an even numbered year when we elect our president, members of Congress, governor and other statewide offices, as well as countywide elected offices, or the odd numbered years when we elect our local and municipal officers, every November is important in selecting those who will govern us.

The odd numbered years, such as this year, often get overlooked by our fellow citizens, but sometimes, these elections can be more important than the even numbered years as we elect our mayors, city council, township trustees, etc. These elections can sometimes have more consequence to them because we are electing people we sometimes know on a personal level, and these are the elections that put people in office that can have more influence on our daily lives than at a statewide or national level.

Our forefathers understood the importance of voting, even if they didn't give every American citizen access to the ballot box. But as time progressed, every citizen is now guaranteed a right to select their leaders. We must not overlook the importance of that. People all around the world look to America in envy as we allow our citizens the chance to have a say in who will lead us into the future. We must not allow this right to be underutilized or wasted.

I encourage all the citizens of Jefferson County to show up and vote, whether you do it early at the board of elections or decide to wait until Nov. 7. You voice matters and it will determine the future for all of us.
