To the editor:
First my hometown had murals. Then came the nutcrackers. And now? Catfish.
Buffalo has statues of mighty American bison; another town has squirrels -- which admittedly, can be cute -- but Steubenville? Why, Steubenville has big, ugly, bottom-feeding catfish.
Though the lowly catfish can be tasty when freshly caught and properly prepared, there is no way around it: It remains one of the ugliest critters God ever made.
I agree that Steubenville should promote its unique history to increase civic pride and boost tourist appeal, but is having a giant catfish as a mascot the right way to do it?
Please -- let's show a little class.
