To the editor:
East Palestine toxic train wreck questions have revolved around railroad safety.
But the most important question has yet to be asked: Why is a toxic petrochemical like vinyl chloride transported around in trains (and trucks) in the first place? Vinyl chloride starts as petroleum and ends up as plastic (PVC pipe.) Why isn't the entire process in one place? Not that oil spills are great, but they're better than this chemical disaster.
