To the editor
By the time this letter reaches the editor's desk, the Jefferson County Democratic Party will have had another meeting. I would like to suggest at this point that the meeting had some inclusivity or some progressive discussions, but that probably didn't happen. What I can guess is that the meeting involved some extensive differences of opinion, yelling, stomping of feet and bullying within the committees that are supposed to work together. They are supposed to give direction to the Democratic voters of this county.
Decency and inclusiveness should be a given in this party of progressive liberalism, but, instead, it's shunned and abandoned locally. The powers of the old guard are slowly dwindling away with every action against minority groups, women and veterans. You can't just say you're working toward a more perfect union without including the most marginalized among us. The dawn of a new day is only over the horizon and the fields of change are being tended by grassroots groups and generations uninhibited by an inherited superiority (or maybe inferiority) complex.
I hope that the Jefferson County Democratic Party can find reconciliation and reinvigorate itself through action and outreach. The people are tired of feeling like nobody listens to them.
