To the editor:
It has recently been reported by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics that a very impressive 517,000 jobs were added in January to the U.S. workforce, and with job gains being revised upward by 71,000 for November and December, the unemployment rate in our great nation has dipped to 3.4 percent, which is the lowest since 1969, of which President Joe Biden characterized as "extremely good news," and he is very much deserving of significant credit for this landmark accomplishment.
In addition, throughout 2022, it has been reported that our country has added an average of 375,000 jobs per month and more than 12 million jobs during the years of the Biden presidency, which ranks among the very highest, without question, in the long and prosperous history of our country.
In contracts, congressional Republicans have formally refused to raise the nation's debt ceiling without any agreement for massive spending cuts, of which they are yet to specify, unashamedly, in an attempt to portray themselves as fiscally responsible and conservative, when, in contract, they obviously had no such concerns during the Trump presidency, when they consented to raise the debt limit three times without objection and, in the process, added $7.8 trillion to our national debt.
Also, failure to raise the debt ceiling, which would cause us as a nation to default on payments already owed, which would, undoubtedly, result in a massive world recession.
Our nation, and the world, deserves better than this from our elected officials.
For the record, recall also 10 of the previous 11 U.S. recessions began under Republican presidents, and six of the seven previous leaders in U.S. job creation were under Democratic administrations.
Republicans and their media allies attempt to portray themselves as fiscally responsible job creators, but verifiable faces prove the contrary, with every Republican president since Ronald Reagan increasing the federal deficit by a minimum 62 percent.
Republicans and conservative media continue to attempt to portray our current difficulties with massive inflation, which as reached a 40-year high, on Biden and the Democrats when, in fact such is worldwide, and is actually less severe in the U.S. than in most countries throughout the world, as a result of the efforts of Biden and congressional Democrats.
Please consider verifiable facts over verbal demagoguery regarding areas of such grave importance.
