We must all love one another

To the editor:

I am writing in response to the letter “Questions about moving on” that appeared on Jan. 10. As I read it, I was outraged. I was shocked that someone could write to the newspaper and say whatever was on their mind. But I remembered, we the people of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, the Constitution guarantees that right and everyone is entitled to believe how they choose.

After rereading the letter, I have a response. First, I am a Black woman who happens to be from one of the 70 percent fatherless Black homes that was referenced. I will not check to see where the writer got his statistics. I will not take the time to research other ethnic groups and see who is where on the list. Let’s just be fair and humble and say every race has that.

I did not have a father growing up, and neither do my children. You know, America, I am still here and happy to be alive. I love everyone, regardless of the color of their skin or any other factor that makes every human different.

In the past, I met the writer, and we did a project at a local museum with junior high students. You came across as a nice man. No matter what your political belief or opinion is, I have still have respect and love for you. I am glad to see anyone speak up. I want you to know your letter was an example of great writing skills. I loved some of the big words. You are a theatrical writer.

I was a cosmetologist for more than 20 years, and one rule I was taught in beauty school was not to discuss religion, politics or any controversial topic with my client.

I remembered that, and I practice that philosophy, so I will not discuss my view about how I feel or what I think is right. But I will say this: The world needs more love in it. We all, regardless of differences, have to share the Earth together, and we all must love one another.

I hope that all single mothers will be able to take care of our children, no matter if the father “Dipped on us.” (LOL). I don’t let it bother me. I make the best of what I have. If you thought I was going to state my views, you are wrong. I love everyone, and am just trying to promote love and positivity. I don’t see color, I see a person.

I recently graduated from Eastern Gateway Community College with a degree in accounting. I plan to further my education so I can have financial security and support my children. I live in the Ohio Valley and I have met some of the sweetest people in the world. I don’t meet strangers. I meet people of all kinds, and I have been shown nothing but love. I want to give love back to my community and help in way possible.
