Ferguson ready to fight for our area
To the editor:
I grew up watching my parents take gamble after gamble and risk after risk to invest in the place they call home. To Derek and Lisa Ferguson, when times get tough, the tough get going. Now the toughest of times have passed, and the moment is now to seize an opportunity for growth and prosperity that can change the trajectory of our valley for generations to come.
Like my dad and mom, if you’re reading this letter, you have chosen to plant your roots here and improve the place we call home. Thank you for that. You are the backbone of this valley, and the reason why this place is special.
I count being raised in Eastern Ohio as one of the greatest blessings in my life. It is an incredible place filled with amazing, hard-working families.
From stopping an income tax in Steubenville to passing nationwide tax relief, which has put more money in the pockets of hard-working Americans, I have worked to make sure when you earn something you get to keep it.
Here in Eastern Ohio, one of the things I often hear is that Columbus has taken local government money away from our communities. So with the help of some great friends, we made sure the Ohio legislature included public defender reform in the state budget. That reform will keep more local dollars right here in Jefferson, Belmont and Monroe counties, and I plan to continue fighting to keep more dollars here at home where it belongs.
I’ve learned a lot as I’ve traveled 35 states fighting to defend the American Dream. I’ve learned that the divisiveness of this country needs to stop. The dream of the United States of America was never one of red vs. blue. It is one of red, white and blue. The motto of “United we stand, divided we fall” is so true. Our state and our country need to take a page from the Ohio Valley playbook and realize that here… we put people over politics.
So this is my promise to you. This is my commitment. We will no longer be forgotten in Columbus. When you want your concerns voiced, I’ll be there to voice them. Loudly, clearly and without hesitation.
I’m officially announcing the launch of my campaign to be your next state representative, and I humbly ask for your vote in 2020.
