Jefferson County fair still special

There are not many events that can say they have been held annually for a century and a half. That alone makes the Jefferson County Fair special. Annual peach festival tradition continues

For 61 years, the annual peach festival has been a mainstay for the St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Weirton community. That tradition will continue from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, as the church offers a variety of peach-centered treats, along with sandwiches and other refreshments, with a variety of attractions and entertainment also in the works. This year, that includes a classic automobile show, vendors, an inflatable attraction for the kids, and more. Do better for officers with head injuries

Awareness of the consequences of head injuries for athletes has grown considerably in recent years. We know now that their mental health and behavior can be dramatically affected by head injuries. A study by Ohio State University’s Chronic Brain Injury program, which was published Monday in the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, says one group has been overlooked in the move toward better concussion surveillance. The end-of-summer racing tradition in the Weirton area is fast approaching. For close to 30 years, the Marland Heights 5K Classic has been a competitive race, a community event and a yearly milestone as the summer season begins to wind down.
