Enjoy our local fairs, festivals
Whether you’re looking for the chance to spend some quality time with friends and family, an opportunity to make some new friends or just trying to find something special to do during the next several months, you need only look at the many fairs and festivals that are scheduled to be held throughout the Tri-State Area.
Their themes vary widely, and events held across our region feature activities for people of all ages. You can find many listed in the special section that will be included with today’s newspaper.
Consider a random sample:
• The life of Dean Martin, the legendary entertainer who was born in Steubenville, will be celebrated Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a variety of events scheduled at the Jefferson County Historical Museum, Historic Fort Steuben, the Spot Bar, as well as vendors set up on Fourth Street. There will be a Dino Dash 5K, a parade, and this year introduces the Dean Martin Association Charity Golf Scramble.
• Weirton will celebrate our nation’s independence on July 5, with an afternoon parade, along with vendors, games and more along Main Street, the traditional performance by the Wheeling Symphony and the fireworks display.
• If you’re looking to experience a county fair, there are plenty of options: The Harrison County Fair will be held June 23 through June 28; the Carroll County Fair will be held July 14-20; the Jefferson County Fair is set for Aug. 11-17; and the Brooke County Fair will be held Sept. 12-14.
• The Wellsburg Applefest is set for Oct. 3-5.
• The Juneteenth holiday will be celebrated with several events planned. That includes the annual Juneteenth Festival that will be held June 19-21 organized by Second Baptist Church in Steubenville, which will feature a community parade from Historic Fort Steuben to the church. Other celebrations will be held at the North End Park in Steubenville. Weirton will see a revival service at Christ the King Church June 20, with activities held at the Weirton Event Center June 21.
• The Toronto Art Festival will be held Aug. 30 and 31.
• Follansbee’s annual Christmas in the Park will be held Oct. 11-12.
We can’t even begin to list all of the region’s events here, but we can safely say there is something for everyone at area fairs and festivals.
