A group of nine area businessmen and women have completed one journey and are embarking on another as graduates of the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Ohio Valley program.
For the last seven months, they have organized and attended a series of monthly sessions focused on local government, economic development, education, health care and more, while learning the importance of teamwork and public service.
They visited and toured local businesses, volunteered their time with area organizations, attended civic and government meetings, took part in mock council exercises, and implemented a project in service to the community by helping to clean up Marland Heights Park.
This year's class of graduates -- who were recognized during a luncheon Sunday at the Rhododendron Room on Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton -- and their sponsors include Anthony Basil, the Frontier Group of Companies; Daniel Day, Rotary Club of Weirton; Ashley Flaherty, Youth Services System; Lonna Flowers, Hancock County Savings Bank; Jason Heckathorn, Madonna High School; Risha Marple, city of Weirton; Joe Quattrochi, Serra Village Retirement Community; Libby Reasbeck, Form Energy; and Paul Zuros, Hancock County Commission.
Leadership Ohio Valley has opened a door for each of the graduates. Lessons learned through the program will be critical as the graduates take their next steps as leaders, whether it is taking on a greater role in business, joining a community organization, seeking public office or finding ways to contribute to a favorite project or group.
The region is looking forward to seeing where their journeys will take them.
