The summer-like weather residents of the Tri-State Area have been experiencing serves as a reminder that it's time to get out and start enjoying the region's outdoor events and festivals.
Among the first of those arrives this week with the return of Wednesdays in Wintersville.
Held on the first Wednesday of every month, the event, which will be in its fourth year, will run monthly through September. Featuring a lineup that will include numerous vendors, food trucks, games for children and live entertainment, the festival brings the central part of the village to life.
Organizers said the footprint of the monthly event, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will look a little different this year, with activities moved closer to the village's Main Street, Frank P. Layman Boulevard. Food trucks and other vendors will be positioned in the lot in front of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with musical guests performing in the lot behind Exquisite Creations by Joel on Grove Street. Non-food vendors and other activities also will be found there.
Booths and other attractions will continue to be set up at the Center for Hope at Wintersville Methodist Church.
Wednesday's theme is T Party, and events will include a golf contest to help benefit the Josh Merriman Foundation, a display of tea sets and a princess parade. Matt Hill and friends, an area jazz band, will perform from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Themes for the remainder of the season will include Heritage Month on June 5, Let Freedom Ring on July 3, '80s Flashback on Aug. 7 and Apple, Peaches and Pumpkin Pie on Sept. 4.
Helping to drive the monthly event is a volunteer committee chaired by Joel John. Ferguson's House of Furniture and Seven Ranges Entertainment are sponsoring the entertainment for the season, with other local businesses sponsoring other activities. It's a list that includes Mosti Funeral Home, which will sponsor bounce houses for children this month, as well as Exquisite Creations by Joel, which is sponsoring the china and tea set presentation.
Wednesdays in Wintersville has become a must-attend event on the calendars of a growing list of area residents. The reason for that is simple: It offers the chance to relax and unwind on a spring or summer evening, spend quality time with family members, enjoy the company of friends and neighbors and celebrate everything that is good about our region.
We hope you will make plans to attend. You will have an enjoyable evening and show your support for a local community.
