DOMINIC DUCO

Dominic Duco

Dominic "Dom" Duco, 81 of Wintersville, OH passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on September 26, 1945, in Steubenville, OH. Dom lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, generosity, family, friendship, and an unwavering faith in the Lord.

Dom was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1963. He dedicated 50 years of his working life to the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Mill before retiring. His commitment to his community extended well beyond his career. Dom was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus beginning in 1964, was a member of USWA 1190 since 1964, and was involved with PAC since 1989. He also served on the Board of Directors of Valley One Credit Union beginning in 1972.

Dom's love of sports was a defining part of his life. He was an accomplished softball player for St. Anthony in Steubenville and for various teams throughout the Ohio Valley. He was widely known as one of the area's best softball players. His passion for the game eventually led him to coach Little League Baseball in Wintersville alongside Ed Florak for 14 years- years he often described as some of the best years of his life.

Dom also enjoyed playing golf and cards with family and friends. He especially loved spending time on the golf courses at Red Oaks, Blackmoor, and Labelle. His love of golf continued into watching PGA tournaments most weekends.

Dom's strength and determination were perhaps never more evident than following a serious accident at the mill in 2003. During his recovery, he began making handcrafted canes and walking sticks. What started as part of his own healing became a beautiful way for Dom to help others. He generously gave his canes and walking sticks to anyone who needed one, never asking for anything in return. His generosity even took some of his creations across the world with the people who received them. A local news story about Dom's canes highlighted not only his craftsmanship, but the kindness and generosity that came so naturally to him.

That same fighting spirit carried Dom through his battle with pancreatic cancer. Throughout his journey, he continued to demonstrate extraordinary strength, courage, and an incredible will to live. Dom became an inspiration to those around him, showing others what it means to persevere while continuing to embrace life and the people he loved.

Dom was preceded in death by his parents, Patsy and Rose Lopresto Duco; his brothers, Rocco Duco and Joseph Duco; and his precious niece and godchild, Cari Allen.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Linda Andreozzi Duco whom he married February 4th, 1967, two sons, Steven (Kathy) Duco of Toronto, OH and Douglas (Cindy) Duco of Powell, OH, two sisters, Patricia (Robert) Waltz of Charleston WV, Donna (Kerry) Frank of Fountain Valley, CA and his very special sister-in-law, Helen Baillie Duco. Above all else, Dom was a family man. He loved his family with all his heart and was especially proud of his two sons, and his cherished three grandsons, Anthony (Tony), Nicholas (Nick) and Joseph (Joey) Duco who brought him immense joy and pride and he has provided them unforgettable "Pap" memories and love that will live on through them always. Dom's love for the Steelers and Yankees will also definitely be carried on by his grandsons! His family was his greatest accomplishment and his greatest source of happiness.

Dom leaves behind much more than memories. He leaves behind the lessons he taught through the way he lived: work hard, love your family, enjoy the game, lend a helping hand, never give up, and always find a way to keep moving forward.

His fighting spirit, generous heart, and love for his family will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him. Thank you for being our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach, mentor and friend. You will be so deeply missed and forever loved.
