Sue Krukowski, beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully in Charlotte, NC, on September 14, 2026.
Sue was born May 12, 1947, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Virginia and Chuck (C.J.) Vincent. She grew up in the Ohio Valley and graduated from Weir High School before earning degrees from West Liberty College and the University of Detroit.
Sue devoted 43 years to Hancock County Schools, beginning as a teacher and ultimately retiring as Director of Student Services. During this time she spent 36 years as principal of Marland Heights Elementary. Although education was her career, her students were truly a lifelong passion and the relationships she built with them remained meaningful to her long after they left her schools. It was also there that she met the women who became affectionately known as the Ya-Yas, a friendship that lasted for decades.
Family was Sue’s greatest joy. She shared a special bond with the Pugh family, who became like family after first knowing them as neighbors more than 35 years ago. After retiring, Sue moved to South Carolina to help raise her grandsons and treasured being part of their lives. She loved watching them grow, supporting their interests, and being there for the everyday moments that meant so much to her.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Erin (Dave) Lawwill; grandchildren, Tyler (Shea) Lawwill, Landon and Grant; great- grandson, Leo; and step-sisters, Susan Carrie and Sally Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and Chuck (C.J.) Vincent, and her stepmother, Audrey Robinson Vincent.
At Sue’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. A private memorial for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
