With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Juanita (Nita) Yelder, who entered into eternal rest on August 1, 2026.
Born on January 10, 1958, in Logan County, West Virginia, Nita was the beloved daughter of the late George and Frances Walton.
Nita was a devoted mother to her only daughter, Monica (Brad Newburn) Yelder, whose love and care meant the world to her. She was a cherished sister to Jerome (Amy Hill) Yelder and a proud grandmother to Bradly (Bethany) Newburn, Kira (Alec Davis) Newburn, and Melia Newburn. She also adored her beloved great-grand- dog, Gianna, who always brought a smile to her face.
She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephew, Angel, Amber, and Jerome Jr., along with many cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Frances Walton.
A graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio, Nita found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved watching soap operas and Big Brother, playing Candy Crush, and watching Marvel movies. More than anything, she treasured every moment spent with the people she loved.
Anyone who knew Nita knew she had a saying for nearly everything. Her family affectionately called them "Nita-isms," and they became one of the many things that made her so special. Whether she was making everyone laugh with one of her expressions or responding to a story with her signature phrase, "Po-Thang," she had a way of bringing comfort and smiles to those around her.
Nita was known for her kind heart and accepting spirit. During her time in the nursing home, she became best friends with the nurses who cared for her rather than simply being another resident. That speaks to the kind of woman she was-- someone whose warmth, kindness, and genuine love for others naturally drew people to her. She truly found her way into the hearts of many.
Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the love, laughter, wisdom, and countless memories she gave us. Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed every single day.
A memorial service celebrating Nita's life will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Vinson Mortuary, 711 N. 5th St., Steubenville, Oh 43952. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 3 p.m.
