Jacques "Jack" Alan Sarles, 86, of Weirton, WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at UPMC Mercy Hospital. He was born on November 28, 1939, in Newark, NJ, the son of the late Walter Sarles and May Colberg.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 52 years, Beverly S. Williams Sarles, who passed away in 2015, as well as several brothers and sisters.
After graduating from high school in 1957, Jack proudly began his career in the United States Navy. A Vietnam War veteran, he served aboard the USS Hancock, USS Shangri-La, USS America, and USS Nimitz, as well as with VA 42, VA 43, VA 44, VA 46, VA 35, VF 114, VT 24, and VT 25. After 21 years of dedicated service, Jack retired as a Jet Aircraft Servicer.
Jack was deeply proud of his military service and often said he would do it all over again. He loved to share stories of his travels, proudly saying that he had been around the world, but there was no place like the United States of America.
Following his military retirement, Jack continued working, spending 18 years at Tri-State Auto Glass and another seven years at S&S Auto Sales. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 10 and VFW Post No. 2716.
Jack had a love for baseball and was a devoted Los Angeles Dodgers fan. He was also a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, watching movies and entertainment, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Cindy Sarles-Elko (John) of Plum Borough, PA; his son, Mark Sarles of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Taylor Elko, Emily Sarles, and Daniel Sarles; great-grandchildren, Paris Quick, Sophia Burns, and Waylon Sarles; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 26, from 12 p.m. until the time of military honors and funeral service at 3 p.m. at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, Penco Road, Weirton. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post No. 10 Honor Guards. Pastor Sam Williams will officiate the funeral service.
