WILLIAM BALL JR.
William Rau “Bill” Ball, Jr., 86, of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Weirton, WV passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at his home.
He was born on October 12, 1939, in Wheeling, WV to the late William Rau Sr. and Belva Cleo (Carpenter) Ball. Bill was a 1957 graduate of Weir High School Weirton, WV, attended WV University, and graduated from Steubenville Business College in Steubenville, OH with his associate’s degree. He was a U.S. Coast Guard Reservist. Bill was the President and owner of Tri State Rubber Sales in Steubenville, OH. He was also employed by Millennium Industrial Tire, Inc. of Florence, Alabama and was most recently employed by S&S Tire Service in Frederick, MD and Hagerstown, MD until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church Williamsport, MD. Bill was also a member of NTDRA (National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association); BPOE #1801 Elks Weirton, WV; Weirton Rotary; Conococheague Tribe #84 IORM Williamsport, MD where he belonged to the Golf Club; and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Bill was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He was known for his humor. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann (Carson) “Judy” Ball, whom he married on August 7, 1964; son William R. Ball, III and his wife Karen of Williamsport, MD; son Christopher Carson Ball of Charles Town, WV; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Carson of Winterville, NC; grandchildren William R. Ball, IV (Julie) of Williamsport, MD, Braxton O. Witmer of Shippensburg, PA, and Caleb W. Ball of Williamsport, MD; three great granddaughters Adrienne, Rylee, and Holland and a great grandson William, V due in July. He is also survived by a special cousin who was like a brother to him Charles McCoy of Indianapolis, IN.
Per Bill’s wishes, services and burial will be private.
