WILLIAM T. SHOPPE

WILLIAM T. SHOPPE

William T. Schoppe, lovingly known as “Shop” or “Billy” to family and friends, 61, of Steubenville, passed away on April 28, 2026. Shop was born on December 29, 1964, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Thomas & Patricia Montgomery Schoppe. Shop was employed at Sal Chemical for many years, where he enjoyed his job and the friendships he built with his coworkers.

Shop loved music, animals, a cold beer, Ohio State, fishing, cooking, and time spent with friends and family. He was a man who lived life fully and found deep joy in the simple, meaningful moments of everyday life. In the last 18 years of his life, he was especially blessed to experience the joy of family life. He cherished family vacations, cooking for his family, and watching his kids grow up, graduate, and move out on their own. He was looking forward to becoming a pappy, a role he would have embraced with so much love and pride.

You can’t talk about Shop without mentioning the friendships he made throughout his life. If a man’s wealth were measured by the friendships he created, the memories he left behind, and the laughter he gave, then he would have been the wealthiest man in the world. There was never a dull moment when he was around. He was the kind of person who cared more about others than himself. His lifelong friend, Rich, said it best: “He would give you the shirt off his back, even if he didn’t have a shirt.”

We are sure that he would want everyone to celebrate his life. We suggest sharing your favorite Shop story, playing some classic rock, and raising a glass. You will be missed, Shop, but never forgotten.

In addition to his parents, Shop was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Fellows. He is survived by his loving companion Vanessa Dettorre, children Jimmy (Xiomara) Panella & Gia Dettorre, who meant the world to him; his sister Linda Schoppe, brothers Harry (Patricia) Colgrove & Jack (Darlene) Colgrove, and 13 nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, on Saturday from 12 p.m. until the time of services at 3:30 p.m. Private family burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
